The Venue History
17th-19th centuries · 17th-18th century Norman chateau with 19th-century additions
Built in three distinct phases beginning in the early 17th century by the Nollent family of knights, the chateau occupies the site of an ancient manor belonging to the Dukes of Normandy. In 1729, Françoise de Nollent married Henri d'Aguessau (son of the Chancellor), leading to the creation of a vast domain and the construction of the central wing featuring the main portico. In the 19th century, wealthy textile industrialist Adrien Gillotin added the third phase to balance the ensemble. During World War II, the chateau served as headquarters for a German army command and received a visit from Marshal Göring in October 1940. Following the D-Day landings on August 25, 1944, it was transformed into a field hospital by the 224th Parachute Airborne Field Ambulance. Today it operates as an accommodation venue and event space.
