Chateau de Pondres
About This Venue
Eight centuries of history, 15 hectares of parkland, and the entire château is yours alone.
Château de Pondres has stood in the Gard countryside since 1195, when it first appeared in the testament of the Seigneur d'Anduze. Eight centuries of ownership by the great families of Anduze, Ganges, and Montlaur shaped its character — from the sculpted stone fireplace in the Salle des États Généraux to the painted ceilings and restored chapel with its Angels of the Annunciation. A 10-year restoration under the Conservation des Monuments Historiques brought the château back to life, balancing its original stonework with the comfort of a modern 4-star hotel. Today, the estate sprawls across 15 hectares of parkland between Montpellier and Nîmes. French gardens, fountains, and a 500 m² Cour d'Honneur set the stage for weddings of up to 200 seated guests — or 300 for a cocktail reception. The château operates on full exclusivity, meaning you and your guests have the entire property to yourselves for the weekend. With 24 rooms sleeping 55, an in-house chef, swimming pool, spa, and gym, everything your wedding party needs is already here. The chapel hosts intimate ceremonies, the vaulted former armoury doubles as a dance floor, and on clear evenings the sunset over Pic Saint-Loup fills the Salle des États Généraux with golden light.
The Venue History
12th century
The existence of Chateau de Pondres is attested in 1195 in the testament of the Seigneur d'Anduze. The chateau was the property of the great families of Anduze and Ganges. Its current architecture derives from a major campaign of works carried out in the mid-17th century by Pierre II de Crouzet. Like many monuments in the Gard, it was looted and set ablaze during the French Revolution. The Marquis de Montlaur was forced to flee. Joseph Isidor de Montlaur returned at the beginning of the 19th century. Raymond Archambaud de Montlaur carried out the complete reconstruction of the south wing. Acquired in 1920 by an agricultural engineer, the chateau fell into disuse throughout the 20th century. It became the property of the Conseil General du Gard in 2004 and was ceded in 2006 to the current owner for an immense campaign of works under the aegis of the Conservation des Monuments Historiques, which lasted 10 years.
