Chateau
Château de Méridon
About This Venue
A flower-lined moat in the Chevreuse Valley near Paris
A neo-Renaissance château nestled in 500 acres of woodland in the Chevreuse Valley, just 35km from Paris, offering exclusive privatisation for weddings of up to 170 guests with 35 sleeping on-site across 12 luxury Art Deco-inspired suites.
The Venue History
13th century · neo-Renaissance
Built in the 13th century, Château de Méridon first served as a wildlife preserve for King Louis XV, then became the closely guarded hunting grounds of the highest members of the French aristocracy. From the 1900s onwards the château had a variety of owners and tenants, including Henry White, the American ambassador to France and signatory of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. It became an emblem of the Vallée de Chevreuse under Mrs Sullivan, a wealthy American who hosted sumptuous dinners and parties for French and American high society, inspiring the château's 1920s interior design theme. After the Second World War the château was bought by the Dutch government as a home for its nationals wishing to settle in France. In 2013 it was privatised for weddings and business events. A change of management in 2022 led to extensive redevelopment works between November 2022 and April 2023, restoring the estate's original elegance and refinement.
