Chateau de Ferrieres
About This Venue
Experience excellence the French way
A magnificent 19th-century neo-Renaissance château built in 1855 for Baron James de Rothschild, set within a 135-hectare English-style park just 25 kilometres from Paris, offering elegant event spaces for up to 5,000 guests.
The Venue History
1855-1859 · neo-Renaissance
Built between 1855 and 1859 for Baron James de Rothschild and inaugurated on December 16, 1862 by Napoleon III. Architect Joseph Paxton designed the building, including the iconic glass ceiling in the Grand Salon, inspired by his Crystal Palace design from the 1851 World's Fair in London. The château replaced the former castle of Fouché, Duke of Otranto, Napoleon I's Minister of Police. The property is surrounded by a 135-hectare English-style park, renowned as one of the most beautiful in France. The estate historically represented the surface area of Paris itself (6,000 hectares when combined with the adjacent Armainvilliers estate). During the Franco-German War of 1870, the château hosted the famous Ferrieres interview between Otto von Bismarck and Jules Favre on September 19-20, 1870.
