The Venue History

16th century · 16th-century seigneurial manor, 18th-century bastide

La Bastide was built in the 16th century as a seigneurial manor in Gordes. In 1948, Victor Vasarely and his wife were drawn to the Luberon region and spent summers at the property, as did other notable artists including Marc Chagall, Jean Deyrolle, Serge Poliakoff, and André Lhote. In 2015, La Bastide opened as a Maison Airelles following a restoration that engaged over 150 artisans. The restoration honoured the history of the historic bastide while incorporating modern comforts, preserving the 18th-century Provençal spirit.
