The Venue History

12th century · Medieval abbey with Norman stone architecture

Historic Monument (listed 2000)

Founded in 1146 with the arrival of the first eight monks, the Abbey de Blanchelande was consecrated in 1185. During the Wars of Religion (1587), the abbey was looted and partly destroyed. In 1790, it was declared national property. In 1857, Madame Berthe de Robersart acquired and restored the abbey residence. From 1880 onwards, the helping sisters maintained the property for over a century. In 1990, it was purchased by a British private individual. The abbey was listed as a historic monument in 2000. The Orangerie was installed and the first wedding season began in 2022.
