Hand-Dyed Silks and Wild Hellebores Aboard a Loire Gabare, Nievre
Lewis and Victoire wed aboard La Mignonnette on the Loire in the Nievre, with a Maison Floret gown, wild hellebores, and hand-dyed silks. 34 photos…
Lewis and Victoire exchanged vows aboard La Mignonnette, a traditional flat-bottomed gabare on the Loire, choosing radical authenticity over grandeur. The Nievre landscape, with its pale reeds and bare dogwood branches, framed every moment Ilkeys captured. Find more destination wedding inspiration along the Loire Valley and its riverside estates.
Bridal Portraits

Victoire wore a Maison Floret gown in ivory crepe with a fluid column silhouette, the fabric moving against the wind off the Loire like a second current. Her veil, named Lewis by Maison Floret, trailed behind her across the weathered deck planks. Ilkeys captured her at the bow of La Mignonnette, eyes toward the far bank, veil lifting, the kind of frame that arrives when a subject is entirely herself.
Couple Portraits

On the riverbank, Lewis and Victoire moved through tall reeds in fading light. Ilkeys worked in the last hour of usable warmth, a golden-amber wash over pale grass. His hand at the small of her back, her laugh at something nobody else heard. The beige L'Apieceur suit and the ivory Maison Floret gown dissolved into the landscape rather than standing apart from it, the wild flora of the Nievre framing them without arrangement.
Reception

As the Loire turned from silver to charcoal, the gabare interior glowed with candlelight reflected in water outside the portholes. Hire pieces by Craie gave the table the texture of a private dinner: linen napkins, unglazed earthenware, taper holders in oxidised brass. Lewis wore a biscuit-beige wool suit by L'Apieceur, unlined and warm in colour against the cool backdrop. The stripped-back palette made every element read clearly.
Design and Details

Elodie at Noces designed a tablescape echoing the movement of water: an undyed flax linen runner weighted by Helene Gisserot mineral-glazed platters in slate, ash-blue, and pale terracotta. Maison Fleurs Fabre placed hellebores and dried river grasses in low clusters. Philippine Mangeart hand-dyed fabric panels in warm stone and grey-green lined the interior hull. Ceramics in river-clay ash tones sat between each place setting, each piece rooted in the same northern French earth as the river.
