Woodland Vows and Candlelit Tables at Chateau Lacanaud, Dordogne

Danielle and Oliver married at Chateau Lacanaud in the Dordogne woodland, with And For Love bridal fashion and ranunculus florals. By Frances Mary Sales.

Danielle and Oliver chose Chateau Lacanaud, a woodland estate with lakeside views in the Dordogne for a celebration that moved from a clearing among bare oaks to candlelit tables inside the chateau. Frances Mary Sales captured the day’s natural rhythm, from woodland vows to portraits by the lake, across this private countryside estate in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Getting Ready

A getting-ready scene captured indoors in a bright, whitewashed room with exposed wooden ceiling beams, wide-plank oak flooring, and a natural wood-framed door. The bride, a blonde woman with loose waves, wears a fitted ivory long-sleeve gown with a deep V-neckline and sleek silhouette, and looks downward as a second woman — likely a bridesmaid or maid of honor — stands behind her smiling and fastening or adjusting the back of the dress. The second woman wears a white sleeveless deep V-neck floor-length gown with strappy sandals. A grey dresser with gold hardware sits to the left, topped with a gold ornate urn and a glass of rosé wine, alongside a gold-framed mirror. The overall styling is modern and minimal, with a warm neutral palette throughout the room. Full-length portrait shot. © Frances Mary Sales

Jennifer Degritot worked through the morning with a steady hand while Kelly Hayman built warmth into each face against cool soft light. Danielle’s Paradise Dress by And For Love, sourced through Story of My Dress Bridal, hung in clean ivory folds, its structured satin catching even the dimmest glow. The thick fabric held its shape on the hanger with quiet authority.

Alan Kitchener from Celebrants in France led the vows in a woodland clearing framed by tall oaks. The processional opened with the Kina Grannis version of their engagement song from Mauritius, the same melody Danielle and Oliver had listened to on that night. Fabric lengths tied between trunks formed a simple arch, and the air carried resin and birdsong.

By the water, Frances Mary Sales worked with Danielle and Oliver along the lake’s edge, reflections doing as much as the composition. The even, forgiving light made silk look as though it was lit from within. The bridesmaids had gathered earlier in coordinated Caroline Bruce gowns, dusty blush and muted champagne tones warm against bark and pale grass.

Cocktail Hour

An outdoor cocktail hour taking place in a garden setting with cypress trees and large mature shrubs typical of a southern French property. Approximately 25–30 guests are mingling across the grounds, with the bride visible in the foreground wearing a long white gown with long sleeves and a cathedral-length veil, speaking with a guest in a red floral midi dress. Other guests are dressed in smart-casual attire including a navy blazer, white trousers, and summer dresses. White stone urns are visible as decorative elements along the garden path. The open lawn between the woodland and the lake became the cocktail space, guests drifting across the grass in soft light. The Feast Maker kept plates moving steadily, and Mixology Sax DJ warmed the outdoor air with something low and unhurried. The lake caught flat light while the infinity pool beyond the lawn gave the scene a quietly cinematic edge.

Reception

When light rain arrived, dinner moved inside and candles set a warm pace across linened tables. The Feast Maker’s service ran steadily, and Mixology Sax DJ read the room perfectly, building from background warmth into something that had the whole room moving. Perfect Day by Karen threaded the logistics so cleanly that the weather reset felt like a natural change of scene.

Les Six Saisons built the florals around the woodland setting, loose arrangements of dried grasses, cream ranunculus, and eucalyptus that felt foraged rather than constructed. The ceremony arch, nothing more than fabric lengths tied between trunks, was perhaps the most confident design decision of the day. Tables were linened in warm white, candlelight handling all the warmth the sky withheld.

An outdoor shot of the courtyard of a French château or manor house, featuring a two-tiered stone fountain as the central background element. The building facade is rendered in a warm peach tone with pale grey-blue shutters, white-framed French windows, and a wrought-iron wall lantern. In the foreground, a rose bush with open white blooms is sharply in focus, while the fountain and building recede softly into a shallow depth-of-field blur. The gravel courtyard and neatly trimmed boxwood hedging are visible at the base of the composition. No people are present in the image. Potential venue feature image. © Frances Mary Sales

Chateau Lacanaud sits in the Dordogne countryside near Serres-et-Montguyard, broad lawns rolling toward a lake and infinity pool, woodland pressing in on all sides. The trees stand stripped back and architectural, all silver bark and reaching branches. The estate holds an entire wedding party under one roof, and that ease of togetherness shaped the whole day.

More from the Day

A groom and three groomsmen walk together across a gravel courtyard in front of a French château with a steep slate roof and stone facade. All four men wear navy suits with white dress shirts and navy ties, each with a small white boutonniere; one groomsman in the center-back stands out slightly with beige trousers rather than a full matching suit. The shot is taken in natural daylight with fallen autumn leaves on the ground, captured as a full-length walking portrait with the château prominently visible in the background. © Frances Mary Sales
