A Rustic Vineyard Wedding at Chateau de Malliac, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Josie and Nick's rustic vineyard wedding at Chateau de Malliac near Toulouse, with Gascon cuisine, lavender accents, and photography by CHRIS+LYNN.

By Elena Moretti | Published 5 October 2020

Josie and Nick celebrated at Chateau de Malliac, a grand 18th-century wedding estate near Toulouse, bringing their rustic vineyard chic vision to life across a weekend in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Planned by Marry Me in France and captured by CHRIS+LYNN, the celebration blended regional Gascon cuisine, lavender accents, and the easy warmth of a destination wedding that felt like a holiday.

Ceremony

An outdoor wedding ceremony taking place in the courtyard of a French stone property, likely a chateau or mas, with ivy-covered walls, terracotta roof tiles, and cypress trees visible in the background. A woman in a champagne-colored knee-length dress and a decorative fascinator hat stands at the front reading from papers, appearing to deliver a reading or officiate. The groom, seen from behind in a light blue suit, and the bride, also seen from behind wearing a white gown and cathedral-length veil, are seated in white chairs facing her, with rows of guests visible on either side. Large white paper lantern ball decorations are strung overhead, and the overall styling is classic and relaxed, set against the warm tones of the French countryside architecture. Wide shot taken from behind the couple.
The bride and groom share their first kiss during an outdoor ceremony, with the officiant standing beside them holding a clipboard. The ceremony takes place in a garden setting with ivy-covered stone building architecture visible in the background. The bride wears a white off-shoulder gown with a cathedral veil and a floral hair piece, while the groom is dressed in a light blue suit. A wooden crate serves as a ceremony decoration, topped with an arrangement of white roses, white anemones, purple flowers, and trailing eucalyptus foliage, with white fabric draping framing the scene. The shot is a medium portrait-style composition capturing the couple's embrace from a slight side angle.
An outdoor ceremony setup in a garden or park setting, featuring two wooden wine barrels topped with slatted wooden crates overflowing with white roses, eucalyptus, and purple wildflowers forming the ceremony aisle markers. A length of white fabric is draped loosely between the branches of a large tree in the background, serving as a natural altar backdrop. The overall styling is rustic and relaxed, with the wine barrels and wooden crates reinforcing a French countryside aesthetic. This is a wide detail shot focused on the ceremony decor with no people present.
The bride and groom walk back down the aisle after an outdoor ceremony as guests toss white flower petals over them. The bride wears an off-the-shoulder white ball gown with a veil and a floral hairpiece, and carries a loose bouquet of white and cream blooms with greenery. The groom wears a light blue suit jacket, white trousers, a light blue tie, and a brown belt. The ceremony aisle is lined with wooden wine barrels topped with white and green floral arrangements, and white fabric draping is visible on the left. Roughly six guests are visible on either side, dressed in summer florals and casual attire. The setting is an outdoor courtyard of a stone building covered in climbing ivy, consistent with a French domaine or winery venue. The shot is a medium-wide portrait taken at ground level, capturing the couple's joyful expressions mid-recessional.

Beneath the ancient trees of the four-hectare park, Josie walked toward Nick with a bouquet of white roses and lavender. The outdoor ceremony unfolded against rolling fields and the silhouette of an old abbey ruin, with guests seated in the dappled shade. Laughter punctuated the vows, and the couple's Paris engagement story, which began under the Eiffel Tower lights, added a layer of personal meaning to the moment.

Bridal Portraits

A bride is being escorted through a large stone archway covered in dense green climbing foliage, likely at a French chateau or manor house. She is wearing a white fit-and-flare gown with a long tulle skirt and veil, and carries a loose, garden-style bouquet with soft white and blush blooms and greenery. The man accompanying her wears a navy blazer, navy tie, khaki trousers, and sunglasses. A strand of white paper lanterns is strung across the archway in the background, and the ground is covered in pale gravel. The shot is a medium full-length portrait taken outdoors in bright daylight.
A couple portrait taken outdoors on the grounds of a French chateau, with the bride and groom facing each other in an intimate pose on a lawn. The groom wears a light blue suit jacket with beige trousers, and the bride wears a fitted white gown with a long veil and carries a loose, natural bouquet with greenery and soft-toned blooms. The chateau facade behind them is heavily covered in dense green ivy, with white-shuttered windows, a terracotta-tiled roof, and a distinctive cylindrical stone tower on the left. The composition is a medium-wide portrait shot framed by tree branches in the upper portion of the image. Potential venue feature image.

The bride, in a white gown, and groom, in a light blue suit, stand together at the front entrance steps, with potted pink floral arrangements flanking the doorway. Wedding guests — approximately 15 to 20 people — are distributed across multiple windows on both floors, leaning out and looking toward the camera in a playful, staged group portrait composition. A couple shares a close moment standing in front of the ornate arched doorway of a small ivy-covered Romanesque chapel or chapel-style building, shot outdoors in natural daylight. The bride wears a white gown with a long cathedral veil and holds a bouquet with pink and white blooms, while the groom is dressed in a light grey suit. The building's stone facade is heavily covered in climbing green ivy, with a decorative carved stone surround framing the arched wooden door. The composition is a wide portrait shot framed by large tree branches overhead, with potted pink flowering plants visible at ground level near the entrance. Potential venue feature image.

CHRIS+LYNN captured Josie among the estate's stone archways and vineyard pathways, her lace gown moving softly against the warm Gascon light. The portraits carried the same unhurried quality as the celebration itself, with Josie looking entirely at ease in the countryside setting. Lavender sprigs tucked into her bouquet echoed the fields visible beyond the chateau grounds.

Reception

Guests seated at a long rectangular outdoor dining table raise their glasses in a toast during a wedding reception. The table is set with white plates, wine glasses containing rosé, green foliage garland running down the center, and wine bottles with small floral arrangements of white blooms. Approximately 15–20 guests are visible along both sides of the table, dressed in summer attire including floral and patterned outfits. The setting appears to be a shaded outdoor terrace or courtyard. The composition is a medium wide shot taken from a low angle at table level, with the foreground slightly blurred from shallow depth of field, giving focus to the raised glasses and table centerpieces.
An outdoor wedding reception table setup photographed in a wide shot against the ivy-covered stone facade of what appears to be a French chateau. A long rectangular banquet table is dressed in a white linen tablecloth and lined with white folding chairs, set for approximately 15-20 guests. The centerpiece runner consists of lush greenery — trailing foliage and leafy branches — interspersed with copper lanterns, white floral accents, small bud vases, and framed place cards or menus. Place settings include stacked white plates, multiple wine glasses, and laid cutlery. Overhead, a cluster of white globe pendant lights hang at varying heights in front of the ivy wall, creating a warm, lit atmosphere as evening approaches. The decor palette is white, green, and copper, with a classic-meets-rustic styling. Potential venue feature image.
A wedding reception dinner is underway in the courtyard of a French chateau, photographed through a stone archway draped with ivy and climbing plants. Approximately 30–40 guests are seated at long tables covered in white linens, with white bistro-style chairs, while a person stands and appears to be giving a speech. White paper lanterns are strung overhead in a line across the courtyard, providing decorative lighting against the ivy-covered facade of the chateau building behind. Wide shot framed by the archway, giving a theatrical, layered composition. Potential venue feature image.
A bridal party portrait taken outdoors on a gravel path, featuring a bride and three bridesmaids posing together in a medium-wide shot. The bride wears a white A-line gown with a long veil and a floral hair accessory, and carries a loose bouquet of white and cream blooms with lavender and greenery. The three bridesmaids wear floor-length blush pink dresses with cap sleeves featuring subtle embellishment or ruching, each holding small rounded bouquets of white flowers including what appear to be white roses and hydrangeas with green stems. The overall styling is soft and romantic with a classic, understated palette of white and blush. Natural backlighting creates a bright, airy quality to the image.

A Gascon Farmyard buffet showcased regional cuisine, with local cheeses, French and English favourites, and a tiered chocolate wedding cake for Nick's sweet tooth. Simple wooden tables dressed with vintage lamps and lavender sprigs stretched beneath the trees. Guests had pitched in the day before, arranging barrels and lanterns, and the communal effort gave the reception a warmth that felt entirely genuine.

Flat Lays

Four close-up detail shots of a wedding cocktail hour or reception food spread styled with a rustic theme. Top left shows a tray of canapés on skewers including black olive and mozzarella bites, charcuterie wraps, and mini burgers arranged on a white doily-lined tray. Top right features a wooden crate display of mixed cherry tomatoes in red, yellow, orange, and dark purple tones alongside rolled wraps on a bed of shredded lettuce. Bottom left shows a food station built from wooden crates filled with grilled sausages and a ceramic pig figurine used as a decorative prop, with hay used as styling material. Bottom right displays a wicker tray of individual desserts including chocolate pots, fruit tarts topped with fresh strawberries, and sugar-dusted pastries, with decorative dark stones used as props. The overall food styling follows a rustic, farm-to-table aesthetic with wooden crates, wicker baskets, and hay as recurring decor elements.
Close-up detail shot of a linen-covered guest book or welcome booklet labeled 'Château de Malliac, Armagnacs' with a gold-bordered label featuring an illustrated sketch of the château. A small tan leather tab on the lower right reads 'LIVRE' (book in French). The cover has a neutral taupe woven texture and the gold detailing gives the stationery a classic, formal look. The item rests on a surface with a subtle decorative pattern visible in the background.

On the left, printed menu cards with a lavender and kraft brown border, tied with twine, display a 'Local Farm Menu' with sections including Pig Pen, Duck Pond, Chicken Coop, Vegetable Patch, and Dessert Table. On the right, a buffet station is set up with wooden crates lined with hay, holding roasted chicken pieces, bread rolls or pastries, and what appears to be a tomato salad, reflecting a farm-to-table rustic styling theme.
Close-up detail shot of a two-tier wedding cake with textured ivory buttercream frosting, decorated between layers with fresh lavender sprigs and greenery. The cake is displayed on a rustic wooden crate, with additional lavender bunches, white roses in small glass bud vases, and dried straw arranged around the base, creating a rustic, Provençal-style display. The setting appears to be an outdoor evening reception, with warm string lights and what appear to be white paper lantern decorations visible in the blurred background, along with the lit facade of what appears to be a stone building. The overall decor palette combines ivory, purple lavender, and natural wood tones in a rustic country style.

Stationery in soft pastels and pale blue tones set the rustic vineyard chic palette alongside sprigs of dried lavender and vintage ribbon. Josie's lace detailing, her white rose and lavender bouquet, and wooden signage carved with the couple's names anchored each arrangement. Every surface carried the same personal touch, with guests' handwritten notes and family heirlooms woven into the collection.

More from the Day

Close-up detail shot of a bridal bouquet resting on the ground among ivy leaves outdoors. The bouquet is composed of cream/ivory roses and stems of purple lavender, tied with a large burlap bow in a rustic style. The stems are bound together and the burlap ribbon features frayed edges, reinforcing the rustic, countryside aesthetic. The background is softly blurred with greenery, keeping the focus entirely on the bouquet.
A candid moment captured outdoors at what appears to be a French chateau or manor, where a bride in a white ballgown with a tulle veil bends down to high-five a young boy dressed in a light blue vest and khaki trousers. The bride holds a bouquet of white roses, anemones, and greenery with purple thistle accents. Several guests are visible around her, including a man in a navy blue suit and a woman in a floral dress, with a second man in a light blue suit visible in the background near an ornate iron gate. The setting is a gravel courtyard with ivy-covered stone walls and string lights overhead. Wide candid shot with a warm, natural daylight feel.
