A Bumble match in Austin led to a muddy hilltop proposal in Honolulu, then to a candlelit celebration at Chateau de la Napoule, a medieval castle wedding venue on the French Riviera. Sylvain Bouzat photographed the chapel vows, rooftop cocktails, and vintage car sendoff across the sun-drenched wedding destinations of Provence.

Getting Ready

A getting-ready moment captured indoors showing two men, with one helping the other adjust a navy blue polka-dot tie. The groom is wearing a white dress shirt and navy blue trousers, while the man assisting him wears a dark navy suit jacket over a light blue shirt. The setting appears to be inside a venue with cream-colored walls, and a decorative gold and cream figurine sculpture is partially visible in the background to the right. The shot is a medium portrait framing both men from approximately the waist up, with natural light illuminating the scene from the left. © Sylvain Bouzat
A groom stands outdoors in front of a white-rendered building with a terracotta tile roof, adjusting his cufflinks or jacket while looking down. He is wearing a navy blue suit with a tie and sunglasses pushed down his nose. The foreground is framed by a large bougainvillea vine covered in vivid magenta-purple blooms, which occupies the left side of the frame and draws the eye toward the groom in the mid-ground. A closed white parasol is visible to the right. The composition is a medium environmental portrait taken from a slight distance, using the flowering vine as a natural foreground frame against the white building facade. © Sylvain Bouzat

Ivory silk charmeuse caught the pale soft light filtering through stone windowpanes as the bride prepared inside the chateau walls. Bridesmaids moved quietly, soft satin and muffled laughter the only sounds punctuating the calm before the formality began. The half-buttoned dress, the glance in the mirror, the exhale before everything begins.

Candlelight filled the consecrated chapel in layers, pillar candles lining the aisle and votives clustered at the altar, casting pale stone walls in flickering amber. A string arrangement lifted the space as the bride appeared. The vows were personal and direct, and laughter broke through the solemnity at exactly the right moment.

Bridal Portraits

A bridal portrait taken indoors in a light-filled room, showing the bride standing and looking back over her shoulder toward the camera. She wears a fitted ivory mermaid-style wedding gown with thin spaghetti straps, lace appliqué bodice detailing, and an exceptionally long cathedral train edged with intricate scrolling lace embroidery. Her auburn hair is styled in loose waves. The room features white tiled floors, a large antique wooden armoire, a wicker chair with a patterned throw, a rattan side table with a lamp, and a floor-to-ceiling glass door opening to a balcony. The train fans out dramatically across a vintage-style blue and cream area rug, emphasizing its length and lace border detail. The composition is a full-length portrait shot from a slightly elevated angle to capture the full extent of the train. © Sylvain Bouzat
A bridal portrait taken outdoors in a formal garden setting, with the bride standing between two large weathered terracotta urns planted with soft pink and white flowers. The bride wears a fitted ivory lace gown with a spaghetti-strap bodice, a long cathedral-length lace-edged train, and holds a rounded bouquet of blush pink and white blooms. She is positioned beside a low rustic stone wall and looks slightly upward with a smile. The composition is a wide environmental portrait shot through foreground tree branches, which frame the scene and add depth. The overall styling aesthetic is classic Mediterranean, with the stone architecture and aged pottery contributing to a warm, sun-dappled garden atmosphere. © Sylvain Bouzat

In narrow stone passages and arched doorways, the classic ivory silhouette came fully into focus against rough medieval walls. The contrast between polished fabric and weathered limestone created an almost painterly tension. Coastal light fell lower and warmer here, golden without being harsh, generous across every frame that Sylvain Bouzat composed.

Sylvain Bouzat worked along the chateau coastal edges as the sun dropped low, bouncing off the Mediterranean and catching honey tones in the castle stone. The bridesmaids in dusty rose chiffon and groomsmen in charcoal wool gathered on the courtyard steps for warm group portraits, before the couple moved into quieter frames along the terraced walkways.

The rooftop terrace after sunset became the evening stage, with strings of warm light overhead and the Riviera coastline spread below. Champagne glasses caught the last glow during cocktails before dinner moved inside. Speeches bridged language gaps with ease. Then a vintage car appeared at the castle gate for a sendoff that felt entirely personal and somehow still a surprise.

Design and Details

A vintage cream Citroën Traction Avant, decorated with a floral arrangement of blush pink roses and greenery on the hood, is parked in a courtyard at night. The setting is an outdoor courtyard of a French stone building, with globe string lights strung overhead creating warm ambient lighting. No people are visible; the shot focuses entirely on the decorated wedding car as a detail/transport element. The overall styling is classic French vintage, with the warm light from the string lights and uplighting on the stone facade contributing to the evening atmosphere. © Sylvain Bouzat
A close-up detail shot of two wedding rings — one plain silver band and one silver ring with small diamonds — placed on a yellow and white striped fabric surface, likely a sun lounger or cushion. Palm fronds hang over the top of the frame, casting dappled shadows across the striped textile. The composition frames the rings at the lower center of the image, with strong natural sunlight creating high contrast shadows from the palm leaves. The styling suggests a relaxed, tropical or summer outdoor setting. © Sylvain Bouzat

The palette leaned classic: ivory, warm antique white, and the faintest blush paired against rough-hewn limestone. White ranunculus, garden roses, and eucalyptus sat in restrained clusters that felt organic rather than architectural. Glassware caught candle flame at each setting, multiplying warmth across the stone-walled dining space.

From turreted roofline to chapel arches, Chateau de la Napoule reads like a film set that happens to be real. The in-house team dressed cool stone surfaces with candlelight and clean arrangements that let the medieval architecture breathe. A consecrated chapel, inner courtyard, and rooftop terrace meant the entire day unfolded within one remarkable coastal address near Cannes.
