Saint-Tropez occupies a peculiar position on the Riviera. It feels remote - there is no train station, no nearby airport, and the single coast road fills with traffic every summer morning. That inaccessibility is part of its character. The town sits at the tip of a peninsula surrounded by vineyards, cork oak forests, and headlands that drop into clear blue water. Once you arrive, the outside world falls away.

The venues around Saint-Tropez draw from this landscape. Vineyard domaines in the Var backcountry stretch toward Lorgues and Draguignan. Coastal properties sit on the Ramatuelle and Pampelonne headlands. Private villas occupy the pine-covered hills above the bay, with views across the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. For the full Riviera picture, see wedding venues on the French Riviera, or browse all wedding venues in France.

The town itself runs on a rhythm that suits wedding weekends. Morning markets in the Place des Lices, long lunches on the harbour, afternoon swims at Pampelonne, aperitifs on the port watching the yachts come in. There is enough to fill three days without anyone feeling managed.

“Once you arrive, the outside world falls away - the inaccessibility is part of Saint-Tropez's character.”

Why this region

Why Choose Saint Tropez for Your Wedding

Saint-Tropez has a quality that most Riviera towns lack - it still feels like a village. The old port is lined with pastel-painted houses. Fishermen sell the morning catch on the quay. The Place des Lices hosts a twice-weekly market under plane trees that have been there for centuries. Strip away the yachts and boutiques and the bones of the place are genuinely Provencal.

The Gulf of Saint-Tropez creates a natural amphitheatre. Venues on the surrounding hillsides look across the water to the Maures mountains, and the light here - particularly in the late afternoon - has a warmth that drew Matisse and Signac long before the jet set arrived. Photographers know this: the golden hour on the Saint-Tropez peninsula lasts longer than it should.

The wine region matters too. The Cotes de Provence appellation runs directly through the area, and several wedding venues sit on working vineyards. Your reception wine can come from the same vines your guests can see from the dinner table.

Heart of Cotes de Provence

Rose wine country surrounds Saint-Tropez. Several venue domaines produce their own wines, served at the reception straight from the cellar.

Village Character, Not Resort

A working fishing port with daily markets, pastel houses, and a pace that still runs on Provencal time despite its reputation.

Pampelonne Beach Access

Five kilometres of white sand twenty minutes from town - the best day-after-the-wedding activity on the Riviera, no planning required.

Gulf Views and Golden Light

The amphitheatre-shaped bay catches late afternoon light that photographers rate as some of the best in the south of France.

Pine and Cork Oak Peninsula

Venues on the Ramatuelle headland sit among maritime pines above turquoise water, with a wild, coastal atmosphere distinct from the rest of the Riviera.

Types of Wedding Venues in Saint Tropez

The Saint-Tropez peninsula and the Var hinterland offer a mix of coastal and agricultural venues. Here is what the landscape holds.

Chateau
20 venues

Chateau

Stone chateaux in the Var hills behind Saint-Tropez, typically surrounded by vineyards or olive groves. Properties here tend to be less formal than the Luberon chateaux, with a rougher, more agricultural feel. Most host 100-200 guests with on-site rooms.

Domaine

Wine-producing estates in the Cotes de Provence appellation. Many are working vineyards where rose wine is made on site. Stone-walled courtyards, barrel rooms, and vine-lined terraces create a reception setting that is distinctly Provencal.

Bastide

Bastide

Traditional country houses on the hillsides around Ramatuelle, Gassin, and Grimaud. Thick walls, terracotta tiles, and terraced gardens overlooking the gulf. Typically smaller - 60 to 120 guests - and more intimate than a chateau.

Travel

Getting to Saint Tropez

Saint-Tropez is the most remote of the Riviera's major destinations - no train station, no local airport, and one main road in. That seclusion is part of the appeal, but it requires more planning for guest logistics.

By Train

The nearest TGV station is Les Arcs-Draguignan, about 35km inland. From Paris, the TGV takes around 4.5 hours to Les Arcs, followed by a 45-minute taxi or shuttle to Saint-Tropez. In summer, a ferry runs from Sainte-Maxime across the bay.

By Car

From Nice, take the A8 to Le Muy, then the D25 south through Sainte-Maxime (1.5 hours total). In July-August, the last 20km through Sainte-Maxime can take an extra 45 minutes in traffic. Early morning or evening arrivals avoid the worst.

Local Tips

Helicopter transfers from Nice airport take 20-25 minutes and land at the Saint-Tropez heliport near the town centre - a practical splurge that avoids the summer road congestion entirely. The seasonal ferry from Sainte-Maxime is cheap (8 EUR) and takes 15 minutes.

Best Time for a Wedding in Saint Tropez

Wedding Costs in Saint Tropez

  • Coastal villas and hotel buyouts on the peninsula start from 40,000-100,000 EUR in peak season
  • Var backcountry domaines and chateaux range from 7,000-20,000 EUR for a weekend hire
  • Catering near Saint-Tropez averages 160-250 EUR per person - the highest on the Riviera
  • July and August command 40-60% premiums over June or September at most venues
  • Transport costs are higher than elsewhere on the Riviera due to the remote access

Insider Tips for Saint Tropez Weddings

1

Arrive by boat for the entrance

Several charter companies run from Sainte-Maxime, Port Grimaud, or Nice. Arriving at the old port by water is the most Saint-Tropez way to start a wedding weekend, and it avoids the road entirely.

2

Book the Place des Lices market morning

The Tuesday and Saturday morning market under the plane trees is a genuine local institution. Schedule your day-after brunch nearby and let guests wander. It needs no organising and everyone remembers it.

3

Consider the Var backcountry seriously

Vineyards and chateaux around Lorgues, Draguignan, and Cotignac sit thirty minutes inland from Saint-Tropez. Prices drop by 40-50% compared to peninsula properties, and the setting - rolling vine-covered hills - is arguably more photogenic.

4

Use Toulon-Hyeres airport for budget guests

TLN is an hour from Saint-Tropez and handles budget carriers that NCE does not. Suggest it as an alternative for cost-conscious guests - the drive is shorter and less congested than from Nice.

5

Time your ceremony for the gulf light

The Gulf of Saint-Tropez faces east, which means morning light on the water and a warm, golden glow on the hills behind in late afternoon. West-facing terraces above the bay catch the best ceremonial light from 17:00 onward.

6

Factor in the Brigitte Bardot factor

Saint-Tropez has a cultural identity that guests respond to. Lean into it - rose wine from nearby vineyards, a petanque court for pre-dinner drinks, dinner served late in the Provencal style. The setting does the work.

What is the best time of year for a wedding in Saint Tropez?
June and September offer the best balance. June has warm weather, long evenings, and the town is alive but not yet overwhelmed. September brings warm seas, harvest atmosphere, and prices 30-40% below July-August peak.
How do guests get to Saint Tropez for a wedding?
Most fly into Nice (NCE) and drive or take a shuttle (1.5 hours). Toulon-Hyeres (TLN) is closer at one hour. Helicopter transfers from Nice take 20-25 minutes. In summer, avoid road arrivals between 10am and 4pm - traffic on the coast road is severe.
How much does a wedding venue cost near Saint Tropez?
Peninsula villas and hotels start from 40,000 EUR in peak season. Var backcountry domaines and chateaux range from 7,000-20,000 EUR for a weekend. Most couples with 100-150 guests budget 15,000-30,000 EUR for venue hire in the Saint-Tropez area.
Can you get married on Pampelonne Beach?
Symbolic ceremonies on the beach are possible through Pampelonne's private beach clubs, which charge 3,000-10,000 EUR for the space. Legal ceremonies take place at the mairie in Saint-Tropez or Ramatuelle. The beach is at its best in June and September when it is less crowded.
Is Saint Tropez too expensive for a destination wedding?
The peninsula itself is premium-priced, but the Var backcountry thirty minutes inland offers vineyard chateaux and domaines at prices comparable to inland Provence (7,000-18,000 EUR). The Saint-Tropez atmosphere extends well beyond the town itself.
What are the best day-after activities near Saint Tropez?
Pampelonne Beach is the obvious choice - five kilometres of sand with beach clubs and open stretches. The Place des Lices market runs Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Boat trips to the Iles de Port-Cros national park offer snorkelling in some of the clearest water in France.
