Burgundy and Gold at Chateau Gassies, Bordeaux

Alena and Stanislav celebrated at Chateau Gassies near Bordeaux with burgundy and gold reception design. See the full gallery of 60 photos by Nastia Vesna.

Fourteen hectares of formal parkland stretch behind the limestone facade of Chateau Gassies, a restored 18th-century estate near Bordeaux. Alena and Stanislav chose this ground for its dual character: stone walls and timber beams inside, open lawns and reflecting pools outside. Their celebration moved between both worlds across a single day, with views over the Nouvelle-Aquitaine countryside south of Bordeaux framing every transition.

Getting Ready

A getting-ready detail shot of a white bridal gown hanging on a wooden hanger hooked to an antique honey-toned wooden armoire. The dress features a deep V-neckline, sheer long tulle sleeves, 3D floral appliqués at the shoulders and waist, and a full layered tulle skirt that cascades to the floor. The image is a centered, medium-distance portrait-style composition with the armoire set against a plain light grey wall, giving the shot a clean, minimal look.
A getting-ready moment captured indoors, showing a bride kneeling on a red patterned area rug on a light wood floor, playing with a Shiba Inu dog that is standing on its hind legs reaching for a treat. The bride is wearing a white lace-trimmed bridal robe over white lingerie, with her dark hair styled up, and is smiling down at the dog. The room features a large antique dark wood armoire and neutral white walls, suggesting a classic French interior. The shot is a full-length portrait with a candid, relaxed feel.
A bride getting-ready scene set in a well-appointed hotel or chateau bedroom with light wood floors, a patterned area rug in red and green, and a four-poster bed with white linens. The bride, wearing an ivory satin robe with lace trim over a white lace bridal slip, sits on a tufted cream upholstered bench holding a champagne flute, smiling down at a Shiba Inu dog resting beside her on the bench. Her dark hair is styled in a neat updo and she is barefoot, with a small ankle tattoo visible. The room features a freestanding oval mirror, a red upholstered accent chair, and a small flower arrangement visible in the background, giving the space a classic, warm residential feel. Full-length portrait shot taken from a slight distance to capture the full scene.
A bride holds up a champagne flute filled with sparkling wine during the getting-ready portion of the wedding day. She is seated indoors in what appears to be a bright, light-toned room with a wooden dresser visible in the soft background. She wears a white mini dress or romper featuring ostrich feather trim along the sleeves and hem, with a keyhole cutout detail at the back, and her dark hair is styled in a chic updo. The composition is a close-up portrait shot from behind and slightly to the side, with the champagne glass and feather-trimmed sleeve in sharp focus and the background intentionally blurred.

Alena got ready in one of the chateau bedrooms, silk robe on, champagne in hand, her ivory wedding dress hanging by the arched window. Pearl drop earrings caught the morning light as she sat on a tufted bench, the white mini dress she would change into later already laid out nearby.

Ceremony

An outdoor wedding ceremony is underway at a French estate, with the bride walking down a gravel aisle toward the altar. The bride wears a white ball gown with a long cathedral-length veil and a trailing skirt. Approximately 30 guests are seated on white folding chairs arranged in rows on either side of the aisle, many holding up phones to photograph the procession. The aisle is lined with low floral arrangements featuring blush pink dahlias, white blooms, and trailing greenery. The ceremony takes place on a manicured lawn in front of a large limestone chateau with arched colonnades, with tall Italian cypress trees framing the building. The groom is visible standing at the far end of the aisle in a black tuxedo. This is a wide shot taken from behind and to the side of the bride. Potential venue feature image.
Black-and-white portrait-style shot of a bride and groom standing at the altar during an indoor wedding ceremony, photographed from behind. The groom wears a white dress shirt and dark trousers, while the bride wears a full tulle gown with a long veil and holds a bouquet. The ceremony space features an elaborate overhead installation of cascading florals and hanging crystal or bead strands, creating a dense canopy above the couple. Floral arrangements are also visible in the foreground at the base of the altar. An officiant stands facing the couple in the middle ground, with approximately 15–20 seated and standing guests visible on both sides in the background. The interior space appears to have stone walls with warm uplighting visible in the mid-tones, suggesting a barn or chapel venue. The image has soft, warm contrast with bright highlights on the bride's veil and gown against the darker background.

In the foreground, a close-up aisle floral arrangement features white hydrangeas, blush pink dahlias, light pink roses, white delphiniums, blush lisianthus, and eucalyptus foliage. The background shows the limestone facade of the chateau with tall Italian cypress trees framing the entrance, contributing to a classic French formal garden aesthetic. The composition is a detail/portrait-orientation shot with shallow depth of field, keeping the floral arrangement sharp while the chairs and building recede softly out of focus. The gravel aisle is flanked on both sides by rows of white folding and Chiavari chairs, with lush floral arrangements lining the path at ground level featuring white delphiniums, blush and white peonies, blush roses, and eucalyptus greenery. At the far end, large white urn pedestals hold full, overflowing arrangements in the same white and blush palette. The ceremony space is framed by the stone facades of two venue buildings on either side and tall Italian cypress trees. The overall decor palette is white and soft blush with green foliage accents, giving a classic French garden aesthetic. Potential venue feature image.

Rows of white chairs lined a gravel aisle through the formal gardens, leading to a floral altar of white hydrangeas, blush garden roses, and trailing greenery. The couple exchanged vows twice: once outdoors under open sky, once inside the stone chapel with its tall arched windows and wrought-iron chandeliers. Cathedral-length veil, tulle ballgown with 3D floral applique, and the sound of applause echoing off old stone.

Bridal Portraits

A black-and-white bridal portrait showing a bride from approximately the waist up, photographed outdoors against a softly blurred architectural background. The bride wears a voluminous white ball gown with a deep V-neckline and three-dimensional floral appliqués scattered across the bodice and shoulders, styled in a classic formal aesthetic. A long, flowing cathedral-length veil is draped over her head and spreads wide around her, its sheer tulle fabric catching light and creating strong contrast against the bright tones of her gown. The bride faces slightly to the left in a composed profile pose, wearing small stud earrings, with her hair neatly pulled back, and a subtle smile on her face.
A bride sits on the edge of a bed in an indoor bedroom setting, posed in a three-quarter portrait shot. She wears a white off-the-shoulder ball gown with three-dimensional floral appliqués along the bodice and sheer tulle sleeves with scattered sequin details, paired with a veil and pearl stud earrings; her dark hair is pulled back into a sleek low bun. She rests one hand gently on a Shiba Inu dog sitting beside her on the bed, with an engagement ring visible on her finger. She wears an off-the-shoulder white tulle ball gown with ruffled detailing along the sleeves and bodice, a high front slit, a cathedral-length train, and white pointed-toe heels with ankle straps; a sheer veil is visible at the back of her upswept hair. Two guests or vendors are visible in the soft background, one near a gold-framed easel, with an open landscaped garden and rolling countryside beyond the terrace balustrade. The shot is a full-length portrait with a shallow depth of field, giving the background a blurred quality while keeping the bride in sharp focus.

Alena wore an off-the-shoulder white tulle ballgown with three-dimensional floral applique along the bodice, a deep V-neckline, and a cathedral-length veil. For the evening, she changed into a short structured satin mini dress. The bridal portraits ranged from the chateau steps to the formal garden paths, each frame grounded by the cream limestone and white shutters behind her.

Couple Portraits

The groom wears a black tuxedo with a bow tie and dark sunglasses, and has a small white and burgundy boutonniere on his lapel; he stands with one hand in his pocket while the bride rests her hand on his arm. The bride wears a white off-shoulder tulle ballgown with a deep V-neckline, 3D floral appliqué detailing at the shoulder, an off-shoulder tulle wrap, and a high front slit. The styling is modern and fashion-forward, combining classic black-tie formalwear with an editorial edge. This is a full-length couple portrait shot in warm late-afternoon light.

The bride wears a full-volume white tulle ball gown with detachable puff sleeves and a long straight-edge veil that falls to mid-back, while the groom is dressed in a dark navy or black suit. The setting is outdoor along a formal garden terrace, with trimmed hedging running alongside the pale stone chateau facade fitted with white-shuttered windows. The overall styling is classic and formal.

A large white urn filled with an arrangement of white stock flowers, blush blooms, and trailing greenery is positioned to the right of the frame. The venue features cream-cut stone architecture with tall cypress trees flanking the entrance and a clock mounted on the facade, giving the setting a classic French country house character. The composition plays on depth of field, with the candid dog in the foreground acting as the primary subject against the couple in the distance. Potential venue feature image.
A couple portrait shot outdoors on a gravel path, with the bride and groom sharing a kiss. The bride wears an off-the-shoulder white tulle ball gown with three-dimensional floral appliqué detailing and a long flowing veil, her dark hair styled in an updo. The groom wears a classic black tuxedo with a white dress shirt and black bow tie, with a boutonnière featuring a white rose, small pink flowers, and greenery. The setting appears to be the grounds of a French chateau or manor house, with a tall cypress tree and a stone building visible in the soft background. The composition is a mid-length portrait with a shallow depth of field, keeping the couple sharply in focus against the blurred garden setting.

Wedding photographer Nastia Vesna shot on the chateau steps, by the reflecting pool, and across the open lawn, mixing natural light with the architectural lines of the facade. One frame: the groom carrying the bride at a run across the grass, both laughing. Another: a quiet kiss by the water, pearl earrings catching the last warmth.

Reception

A detail shot of a wedding reception tablescape set inside an ornate indoor venue with textured cream stone walls. The round table is dressed with a white linen tablecloth, deep burgundy charger plates, gold flatware, and mauve-pink glassware including both wine glasses and smaller tinted glasses. The centerpiece features a low arrangement of white ranunculus, blush garden roses, dark burgundy anemones, and greenery, flanked by lit dusty pink taper candles in individual holders. In the background, a tall white urn holds a voluminous floral arrangement of blush peonies, white delphiniums, and trailing greenery, positioned near a gold ornate mirror mounted on the wall; a white pedestal with a classical bust is visible to the right. White French Napoleon-style chairs surround the table, contributing to a classic, romantic French interior aesthetic.
This black-and-white image captures a couple's first dance at an indoor reception, likely inside a chateau or historic ballroom. The bride wears a short, structured off-the-shoulder dress with dramatic ruffled sleeves and a fitted silhouette, her dark hair styled in a low chignon with pearl earrings; the groom is in a white dress shirt and dark trousers, his jacket removed. The two face each other closely, his hands on her waist and hers on his, with guests visible and slightly blurred in the background watching the moment. A chandelier with floral or crystal detailing is partially visible at the top of the frame, and framed artwork hangs on the light-toned walls, suggesting a classic, formal interior setting; the image is a medium portrait shot with shallow depth of field, rendering the background in soft, low-contrast tones.
This black-and-white image shows a bride and groom kissing at their sweetheart table during an indoor evening reception. The groom wears a white dress shirt with a black bow tie, and the bride wears a strapless gown with her dark hair styled up, with a veil trailing behind her. The foreground features a dense, low floral arrangement of dahlias, ranunculus, and mixed blooms with tall taper candles, rendered in deep contrasting tones. Overhead, crystal drop garlands and floral installations hang from above, and large French doors in the background reflect a chandelier and warm exterior uplighting, creating bright highlights against the dark night. The composition is a medium portrait shot taken slightly above table level, with the floral centerpiece in soft focus in the foreground.
The bride and groom share their first dance in a large indoor reception hall with stone walls, arched windows, and a wood-plank floor. The bride wears an off-the-shoulder white tulle ball gown with long puff sleeves and a cathedral-length veil, while the groom is dressed in a white dress shirt and navy trousers. The ceiling is decorated with hanging installations of blush pink and white florals — including roses and small blooms — suspended on crystal bead strands, and the room is bathed in pink and purple uplighting with dramatic event light beams cutting across the dance floor. To the right, approximately eight to ten guests are seated at white-linen-covered tables with white Chiavari chairs, watching and photographing the couple, with candle and floral centerpieces visible on the tables. A large floral installation of blush pink blooms is visible in the background left corner. The shot is a wide full-length portrait taken from behind and slightly to the side of the couple, capturing the full sweep of the dress train.

Burgundy charger plates, gold flatware, and mauve-pink glassware set the tone for each round table inside the reception hall. White ranunculus, blush garden roses, and cascading greenery spilled from low centerpieces, while the sweetheart table overflowed with cream and blush blooms against the limestone walls. The couple cut their cake under a sparkler fountain, then danced until the parquet floor shone.

More from the Day

Four female guests are seated on gold Louis XVI-style chairs and a low wooden coffee table during what appears to be an outdoor cocktail hour on the gravel grounds of a French chateau. The white classical chateau building is visible in the right background. The women wear distinctly styled outfits: one in a blue textured ruffled skirt, one in a floral printed long-sleeve blouse and trousers, one in a pale lavender draped floor-length gown with a white cape or shawl, and one in a lilac feather-trimmed dress with a white blazer. All four women wear sunglasses and appear relaxed, looking away from the camera. A small bouquet of blush and ivory flowers with greenery sits on the coffee table alongside what appears to be a pink gingham bag. The overall styling palette is soft lavender, lilac, and pastel tones with feather and textured fabric details suggesting a fashion-forward, modern-chic aesthetic. Medium wide shot, taken at ground level in natural afternoon light.
A bride wearing a short white long-sleeved mini dress with flared cuffs and a keyhole neckline walks barefoot along a gravel pathway in the manicured grounds of a French stone estate. A tan Shiba Inu dog walks alongside her on the lawn. The venue is a classic French limestone building with a terracotta tile roof, large steel-framed windows, climbing wisteria, and a small balcony with white railings, flanked by tall cypress trees and clipped box ball topiaries. The wide-angle portrait shot captures both the bride at mid-ground and the full facade of the building, giving prominence to the venue architecture and formal garden layout. Potential venue feature image.

A gravel pathway leads toward the entrance, flanked by landscaped garden beds with ornamental grasses, white and pale pink wildflowers, and flowering shrubs in the foreground. No people are visible in the image. Potential venue feature image.
A detail close-up shot of two bridal shoes placed on top of a French-language coffee table book resting on a marble surface. One shoe is a white satin stiletto heel with long white ribbon ankle ties cascading down, while the other is a white flat or low-heeled shoe adorned with a large white organza flower at the toe. The tan leather insoles are visible on both shoes. The styling is clean and minimal, with the white shoes contrasting against the dark cover of the book, which appears to read 'De France' on its spine. The marble surface and background contribute to an all-white, modern aesthetic.
