Ochre Stone and Garden Light at Chateau les Crostes, Provence

Jessica and James's garden wedding at Chateau les Crostes near Toulon. Ochre stone, neutral linens, and Provencal light. 45 photos by Lola Gilbert.

By Elena Moretti | Published 30 July 2024

Stone paths, clipped hedges, and the soft warmth of an ochre facade set the tone for Jessica and James's celebration at Chateau les Crostes, a refined Provence estate near Toulon for intimate weddings. Their cockapoo joined the portraits, neutral linens caught the afternoon sun, and the day moved at a gentle pace between courtyard and garden. Getting Ready

In a warm-toned room with terracotta floors and tall sheer curtains, Jessica prepared for the day with their chocolate-brown cockapoo padding between furniture. Julien Matha Coiffeur styled her hair while Chanel No. 5 and bridal accessories were arranged on a white stone mantelpiece. The fitted off-shoulder gown waited on its hanger as soft light filled the space with quiet anticipation.

Ceremony

The ceremony unfolded on a stone-paved terrace before the ochre-yellow facade of the bastide, with terracotta roof tiles and blue-grey shutters framing the scene. Jessica walked the aisle beneath filtered Provence light as guests gathered on wooden chairs among clipped hedges. Vows were exchanged under a natural canopy of foliage, the sound of footsteps on gravel fading to silence as the couple spoke their promises.

Bridal Portraits

Bride from behind walking gravel path with cathedral veil white parasol and bouquet toward ochre mas
Bride in strapless gown laughing with curly-coated dog in toile armchair in chateau interior
A bridal portrait taken indoors in what appears to be a room within a French château or villa, featuring warm ochre-toned walls, terracotta tile flooring, and a large classical oil painting on the wall. The bride stands in profile near a tall window with white linen curtains, gazing outward and holding the curtain panel lightly with one hand. She wears a white off-the-shoulder fitted gown with a structured sweetheart neckline and a floor-length train pooling behind her. Her accessories include drop pearl earrings, a gold bracelet, and a ring, and her blonde hair is styled in loose waves swept to one side. The shot is a full-length portrait with warm, natural window light illuminating her from the side.

Lola Gilbert photographed Jessica from behind as she walked a gravel path toward the bastide's ochre facade, her fitted silhouette framed by the property's warm-stone architecture. Indoors, seated in a blue toile de Jouy armchair with the cockapoo in her lap, she offered a more relaxed portrait that balanced elegance with genuine personality.

Lola Gilbert used the bastide's grounds to shape each portrait: the couple against the warm ochre facade with blue shutters, walking hand in hand along stone paths edged by lavender, and stealing a quiet moment beneath the shade of old trees. The bridal party joined for a walk along a garden path, the bridesmaids in soft tones complementing Jessica's white silhouette and the Provence palette.
