Crystal Details and Shimmer at Chateau Le Petit Verdus, Bordeaux

Tristan and Meredith's black-tie wedding at Chateau Le Petit Verdus near Bordeaux, with crystal details and a garden ceremony. 45 photos by Sarah Lord.

By Elena Moretti | Published 30 July 2024

Tristan and Meredith brought a black-tie vision to Chateau Le Petit Verdus, a refined wedding estate in the Bordeaux countryside on a warm evening. Coordinated by Petillante Weddings, an experienced destination wedding planner in Bordeaux, the celebration unfolded against the backdrop of elegant chateau wedding venues across Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Getting Ready

A getting-ready scene set in an indoor room, likely within a château or manor house, identifiable by the tall French-style casement windows with white frames and heavy dark curtains with a floral lining. One woman with long blonde hair, wearing a pale blue short-sleeve pajama set, stands at the open window holding a small glass and looking out toward a manicured lawn. A second woman, seen from behind and slightly out of focus in the foreground, sits at a dressing table covered in makeup products including brushes, compacts, a pink notebook, and various cosmetic items, with a round black-framed mirror to the right. The composition is a medium candid shot taken from behind both subjects, giving an intimate, unposed feel to the pre-ceremony preparations.
A double-exposure or in-camera multiple-exposure image taken during bridal preparations, showing a bride seated at a dressing table applying makeup while holding a small compact mirror. She is wearing a white lace-trimmed bridal robe and has her hair pinned up with a white hair accessory. The dressing table is covered with an array of makeup products, brushes, perfume bottles, and beauty tools, with a large round vanity mirror visible to the right. A floral-patterned curtain and bright natural window light frame the scene. The double-exposure overlays a close-up of cream-white hydrangea blooms semi-transparently across the entire composition, blending the bride and the florals into a single layered image. The setting appears to be a classically decorated indoor room with wooden floors and cane-back chair, suggesting a château or manor house getting-ready space. The overall shot is a creative medium portrait with a soft, high-key, film-grain quality.

Morning light through tall French windows warmed the getting-ready suite at Le Petit Verdus. Meredith's gown, a structured silhouette with corseted bodice and clean column skirt, carried a faint shimmer more visible in motion than in stillness. Sarah Lord caught the particular moment when hands stilled, earrings not yet in, gaze somewhere past the mirror.

Ceremony

Couple shares first kiss at outdoor chateau ceremony with white hydrangea aisle and tall floral columns
An outdoor wedding ceremony setup photographed in a wide shot directly facing the facade of a French château. Two rows of gold-framed Louis XVI-style chairs with ivory cushions are arranged in an aisle formation on a cobblestone courtyard in front of the château's central entrance door. The pale grey double door is framed by lush floral installations of white blooms — including what appear to be white roses and hydrangeas — combined with trailing greenery climbing either side of the doorframe. Small white floral clusters are also placed at ground level flanking the base of the steps. The château facade is cream-toned limestone with Gothic-influenced architectural detailing, including a pointed dormer above the central entrance. Potential venue feature image.
An outdoor ceremony moment captured at the entrance of a French château, where the bride and groom stand face to face holding hands while an officiant looks on with a smile. The bride wears a sleek ivory cowl-neck slip gown with a long tulle veil, and is laughing openly with her eyes closed. The groom and officiant are both dressed in dark navy suits. Behind them, a large floral installation climbs the château facade, composed of white hydrangeas, white ranunculus, green viburnum, and trailing greenery in a lush, organic arrangement. The shot is taken from a medium distance with foreground foliage softly blurring into the frame, giving depth to the composition. The overall styling is modern and clean, with a green-and-white floral palette against the pale stone building.

Guests sat on ivory wooden chairs arranged in a gentle arc beneath the oak canopy in Le Petit Verdus's main garden. Soft neutral florals marked the aisle in low clusters of white cosmos, ivory sweet peas, and silver-green dusty miller. Petillante Weddings calibrated the timing so the late-afternoon light was exactly right as the faintest breeze lifted the edges of Meredith's veil.

Sarah Lord positioned Meredith alone against the limestone, the gown's structured silhouette working beautifully against arched doorways and iron railings in late-afternoon shade. Later, she had Tristan and Meredith in the vineyard rows at golden hour, the low sun cutting between the vines and catching the shimmer in the gown as they walked, turned, and laughed at something entirely their own.

Cocktail Hour

An outdoor cocktail hour is taking place on a manicured lawn, photographed from an elevated wide-angle perspective showing approximately 25–30 guests mingling and seated in lounge areas. The seating arrangement features French Louis-style sofas and armchairs upholstered in ivory fabric with gold-painted wooden frames, grouped around two large white market umbrellas with scalloped edges and a low acrylic coffee table. A white pedestal bar with a white floral arrangement of what appears to be white blooms and greenery is positioned to the right. Guests are dressed in formal attire — men in dark suits and ties, women in cocktail dresses in colors including lavender, blush pink, and black — and are standing in conversation groups or seated across the lounge clusters. The styling theme is classic French with a refined, garden-party aesthetic combining the ornate vintage furniture with the white umbrella canopies.
A detail shot of an outdoor cocktail hour bar station set up in a garden setting. The white painted bar counter is topped with a large floral arrangement featuring white peonies, white roses, white orchids, white lisianthus, and trailing green ivy and foliage that cascades down the front of the bar. On the bar surface, cut crystal glassware is lined up alongside a silver ice bucket and a silver-framed bar menu card with calligraphy script. A cream-colored market umbrella with a scalloped edge and wooden pole provides shade over the bar. The overall decor palette is white and green with a classic garden party aesthetic. Close-up detail composition with no people visible.

Champagne and local Bordeaux rose appeared on the shaded terrace, pale salmon-pink and almost translucent in the glass. Novelle Traiteur circulated with duck rillettes on brioche toast, tiny gougeres still warm from the kitchen, and thin slices of Ossau-Iraty with honeycomb. Someone found the record player in the salon and put on something French and unhurried.

Reception

Dinner was long and unhurried, four courses paced generously enough that conversations actually finished. Crystal glassware and Fairy Fleur's low centrepieces of ivory and champagne blooms in polished brass vessels reflected candlelight from every surface. Novelle Traiteur served foie gras, regional lamb, and cheeses brought to the table whole, while the garden lights came on and the sky turned deep navy blue over southwest France.

Design and Details

Close-up detail shot of a wedding reception tablescape featuring a lush all-white floral centerpiece composed of phalaenopsis orchids, garden roses, hydrangeas, and lisianthus arranged in a low, dense formation. Two cut-crystal goblets with ribbed detailing are positioned in front of the arrangement, partially tipped toward each other. The place setting includes a white plate with a thin gold rim, silver flatware including a visible spoon, and a pale blue-handled knife, all set on a white linen tablecloth. The overall decor palette is white, ivory, and soft blue, with a classic, formal styling approach.

The place setting includes a gold-rimmed charger plate, silver cutlery, and crystal glassware on a white linen tablecloth. Centerpiece florals feature white hydrangeas, white orchids, and green ammi or bupleurum, arranged low and lush. Two tall glass hurricane vases hold sage green taper candles, one of which is lit. The menu card is printed with a light blue or lavender border and tied with a narrow ribbon, accompanied by a separate place card. The overall decor palette is white, green, and soft blue-grey with gold accents, reflecting a classic, refined reception style.

Crystal accents appeared throughout, in glassware catching candlelight and in the subtle shimmer at the hem of Meredith's gown. Our Fabulous Things supplied polished brass candlesticks and linen napkins folded with geometric precision, while Fairy Fleur's low arrangements featured white phlox, pale champagne ranunculus, and soft sage-green foliage. Novelle Traiteur's regional menu honoured the Bordeaux terroir with seasonal produce on white ceramic platters.

Flat Lays

A flat lay detail shot of a wedding stationery suite displayed on an impressionist-style painted canvas backdrop featuring soft blue, green, and white tones. The suite includes a main invitation card with blue toile de Jouy printed paper wrap tied with a pale blue silk ribbon and sealed with a gold wax seal stamped with monogram initials, a formal ceremony invitation card with calligraphy script, a separate welcome river cruise card, an envelope with calligraphy addressing, and two custom monogrammed matchboxes with gold-tipped matches. White hydrangea florets are scattered loosely around the stationery pieces as styling accents. The overall color palette is powder blue, ivory, and gold, with a classic French toile print as the central design motif.
A close-up flat lay of bridal accessories arranged on a green and blue marbled surface. A dusty blue octagonal velvet ring box holds two rings — a solitaire engagement ring with a pear-shaped diamond in a gold setting and a diamond eternity band. Nearby, a pearl necklace with a gold clasp is partially visible along the left edge. A glass perfume bottle labeled 'La Vie en Fleurs Eau de Parfum' by Bienaimé, Paris, France (1935), with a gold scallop shell cap, sits in the center foreground, and inside the glass tray of the bottle's base rest two additional gold rings — one a diamond pavé band and one a small bow-shaped piece. The styling has a French vintage aesthetic with a warm gold and blue color palette.

A structured white gown laid beside Tristan's ivory pocket square and classic black cufflinks. Fairy Fleur provided clusters of ivory garden roses and trailing eucalyptus. The stationery suite leaned into ivory and charcoal ink, and a single bottle of Chateau Le Petit Verdus wine anchored the arrangement with something deeply local.

Venue

Three male wedding guests relax at an outdoor pool during what appears to be a pre- or post-wedding leisure period. Two men are in the water while a third sits on the pool edge with feet in the pool, wearing sunglasses and smiling toward the camera. The pool has a curved shape with a stone coping edge and a wooden deck surround lined with cream and white striped sun loungers and a closed white parasol. A neatly trimmed hedgerow borders the pool area. The shot is taken from a slightly elevated angle, giving a wide view of the pool and its surroundings.
An interior detail shot of a bedroom, likely within a château or historic venue used for a wedding weekend. The room features blue-and-white toile de Jouy fabric used consistently across the curtains and upholstered headboard, depicting birds and roosters on a cream background. The bed is dressed in white linens with navy blue bordered cushions, and a fringed blue-and-cream Oriental rug is visible on the dark hardwood floor. A small dark wood bedside table holds a single peach rose in a glass bud vase, accompanied by a yellow-shaded wall-mounted lamp. The overall styling is classic French country in a navy and cream palette. Potential venue feature image.

The architecture at Le Petit Verdus makes grandeur feel approachable. Tall stone facades give way to garden terraces edged in clipped box hedging and mature oak, with soft ivory catching late-afternoon gold. The estate's layout flows naturally from interior salons to open-air spaces, vines of the Bordeaux countryside stretching beyond the garden walls.
