Chateau Challain
PremiumBuilt in 1854 for the La Rochefoucauld family, Chateau Challain sits on 29 hectares of gardens, forest, and lake in western Maine-et-Loire, roughly 50 minutes from Nantes. The Neo-Gothic architecture is deliberately symbolic: four towers for the seasons, twelve turrets for the lunar months, 365 windows for the days of the year. Ceremonies take place in the private chapel or on the lawns overlooking the lake, with the forest providing a natural backdrop that feels distinctly Loire Valley, where cultivated parkland gives way to wilder woodland.
The chateau sleeps 50 across 21 bedrooms, with mandatory accommodation purchase keeping the weekend self-contained. A four-to-five course reception uses seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and couples can extend the bar to 1 AM. Paris is 90 minutes by TGV, making it straightforward for international guests flying into Charles de Gaulle.
A Neo-Gothic Loire Valley chateau with private chapel, lake, and 29 hectares of forest for fully exclusive weekend weddings.
