Ivory Silk and Barefoot Dancing at Chateau de Robernier, Provence

Anna and Andy’s intimate Provence wedding at Chateau de Robernier with twenty guests, ivory florals, and their dog Mango. Photos by Loulou Memphis.

By Elena Moretti | Published 31 July 2024

Anna and Andy flew from Australia to gather twenty of their closest people at Chateau de Robernier, an intimate stone estate in the heart of Provence for a day that moved at its own unhurried pace. Loulou Memphis photographed the full celebration, from letterpress flat lays through garden vows to barefoot dancing on warm stone. Getting Ready

In one of Robernier’s high-ceilinged rooms, makeup artist Julia Zadolynna worked with a light hand, building a barely-there base with a smoked inner corner. Anna’s dress, a fluid silk-crepe column with a low draped back, needed nothing to compete with it. The room filled with low laughter and the particular calm that comes when a small group of people genuinely love each other.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the garden, where low arrangements of white hellebore, ivory sweet peas, and soft feathery astilbe sat along the aisle. The chateau’s formal hedges formed the walls of the space, and the afternoon light arrived at an angle that made everything glow faintly gold. Just before the rings, Andy laughed at something Anna said, the kind of genuine, surprised laugh that made the back row quietly exhale.

Alone in the formal garden, Anna moved beside the clipped hornbeam hedges, along the lavender-edged gravel walks, against the pale ochre of the main facade. The silk-crepe of her gown picked up the ivory of the stone. Loulou Memphis shot close and wide, while a loose bouquet of white garden roses, lisianthus, and trailing jasmine vine from Tepee Sauvage moved in the occasional breeze.

With Mango in tow, Anna and Andy slipped into the chateau grounds as cocktail hour wound down. The vineyard rows beyond the formal garden gave Loulou Memphis long, straight lines to work with, and the late-afternoon shadow-play through the cypress alley created something close to a natural darkroom. Mango photobombed at least two frames that will undoubtedly be favourites.

Cocktail Hour

White cocktail food display with hydrangea arrangement, blue cheese, olives, and grapefruit at chateau facade
An outdoor cocktail hour or grazing table display set against the weathered stone facade of what appears to be a French château or manor house with pale blue shuttered windows. The round table is covered in a white linen and styled with an assortment of foods presented on silver platters and crystal pedestal stands, including whole cheeses, green olives, halved pink grapefruits, green beans, pears, a dip with olive oil, and garlic bulbs on a tiered silver stand. Floral arrangements in an all-white palette feature white hydrangeas, white anthurium, white calla lilies, and small white blooms, accented by clusters of green hydrangea. The overall styling is classic French with a natural, produce-forward aesthetic mixing silver serveware with crystal cake stands on a white linen cloth. Wide shot taken from a slightly elevated angle.
An overhead aerial shot captures five men in black tuxedos with black bow ties socializing during what appears to be a cocktail hour or pre-ceremony gathering inside a grand French château or palace-style venue. The men are holding champagne coupes and glasses, engaged in conversation in a loose cluster. The interior features a dramatic black and white marble geometric floor with diamond and square patterns, white paneled walls with gold gilt moldings, a glimpse of an ornate red and gold ceiling fresco, and a mint green upholstered gilt-framed settee visible in the upper right corner. A crystal candelabra with white taper candles and an ornate gold-legged side table are partially visible in the lower right. The classic black-tie dress code and formal interior decor reflect a high-end, formal wedding aesthetic. Potential venue feature image.

Cocktails moved to the terrace as the light shifted into long Provencal gold. Citron Pavot brought passed bites of local cheeses, blistered cherry tomatoes, and tiny tartlets, while Wildfire DJs kept the playlist easy and warm. Anna and Andy circulated without agenda, and their honey-coloured retriever Mango reappeared on the terrace to become the most photographed guest of the hour.

Reception

Dinner unfolded in the courtyard close to the main house, with Citron Pavot’s menu moving through a cold gazpacho, slow-cooked lamb with herbs, and stone fruit for dessert. Wildfire DJs found a loose, warm sound for the evening, French pop giving way to soul as candles burned lower. At one point, Anna kicked off her heeled mules and danced barefoot on the warm Provencal stone flags.

Design and Details

Close-up of oval diamond engagement ring catching light on bride's hand over beaded gown
A close-up detail shot of an outdoor ceremony floral installation placed on a gravel terrace. The arrangement features tall white delphiniums and white stock as the vertical elements, accented with green hydrangeas and green viburnum, with a ground-level cluster of white hydrangeas, blue hydrangeas, white ranunculus, white anthurium, and additional blue hydrangea blooms trailing outward. The color palette is white, soft blue, and green. In the background, a stone balustrade with a large classical carved urn planter is visible, characteristic of a French château or formal garden setting. No people are present. The composition is a medium close-up shot focused on the floral structure with the venue's architectural details softly out of focus behind it.

Du Jour Events and the couple built a table through restraint rather than volume: ivory linen with a faint champagne sheen, low arrangements of white garden roses and trailing jasmine in clear glass cylinders, and thin taper candles in hammered brass holders. Stationery from Peggy and Polly carried the same ivory card and fine script onto place cards and menus.

Flat Lays

Linen vow book with blue embroidery, dusty blue velvet ring box with oval diamond, and white peony bouquet
Close-up detail shot of a wedding stationery suite resting on a marble surface. The set includes two pieces tied together with a periwinkle blue satin ribbon bow: a ceremony booklet or order of service featuring hand-lettered calligraphy reading 'Anna & Andi' in navy blue ink with a white floral and green foliage border design, layered over a card printed with a watercolor illustration of a large ochre-toned manor or château surrounded by trees. The stationery palette combines navy blue script, soft blue ribbon, white blooms, and illustrated greenery, suggesting a classic yet painterly wedding aesthetic.

Stationery from Peggy and Polly, thick ivory card stock with fine letterpress script, sat alongside a single stem of white garden ranunculus and a whisper of dusty eucalyptus. The wedding bands caught the hard Provencal morning light. A folded ribbon, the quiet geometry of it all, spoke to a palette of warm white, soft champagne, and the faintest blush.
