Marianne and Gaelan gathered family from Australia and the Netherlands for a relaxed weekend at Chateau de Maulmont, a hilltop wedding estate near Lyon where every moment unfolded within one address. The terracotta towers and rolling hills of this grand countryside wedding chateau in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes set the stage for candlelit dining, local cheeses, and a macaron-tower finale.
Getting Ready

Marianne dressed in a warmly lit room with ochre walls and burgundy curtains, fastening embellished ankle-strap shoes before slipping into a fitted gown with a deep back. A close-up caught her hands adjusting the bodice in front of a tall gilt mirror. Down the corridor, four flower girls in white gathered by a multi-pane French window, pressing their faces against the glass as light streamed across the stone floor.
Ceremony

A white-canopied marquee opened on one side to the hillside panorama, the aisle lined with white gladioli and soft greenery leading to a simple altar. A family friend led the vows as birdsong and a light breeze moved through the open structure. Guests sat on white chairs beneath the canopy, the rolling hills visible beyond the final row.
Couple Portraits

Marianne and Gaelan walked along the gravel driveway leading up to the chateau, pausing for a kiss framed by the terracotta and dark-brick facade. Indoor portraits placed them on an antique settee in the grand hallway, the black-and-white frames drawing on the pattern of the stone balustrade. A quiet first-look moment earlier in the day had caught Gaelan turning to see Marianne silhouetted in a doorway.
Reception

Dinner unfolded inside the chateau beneath chandeliers, with roasted herbs and butter scenting the candlelit room. A selection of Auvergne cheeses arrived on a wooden board between courses, drawing murmurs of approval from both Australian and Dutch guests. A macaron cake brought everyone forward for photographs and a final champagne toast before the dance floor opened and laughter drifted through the open terrace doors.
Design and Details

White gladioli anchored the floral arrangements alongside roses and trailing eucalyptus, set in low compositions along the linen-dressed reception tables. A seating chart on a wooden easel stood in the grand interior hall beneath a chandelier, handwritten cards pinned in neat rows. Taper candles in brass holders lined the centre of each table, their flames doubling in the polished glassware.
Venue

Chateau de Maulmont commanded a hilltop with terracotta and dark-brick patterning across its Gothic-revival facade. Clipped hedges, gravel paths, and a wide stone terrace framed the panoramic view of the Auvergne countryside. Inside, an ornate staircase with wrought-iron balusters connected generous reception rooms to the upper floors, every corridor carrying the quiet warmth of red patterned carpets and gilt-framed mirrors.
