Calla Lilies and Golden Hour at Chateau de Varennes, Burgundy

Emmy and Marvin's spring wedding at Chateau de Varennes, Burgundy with ivory and blush florals and a Victoire Vermeulen gown. 76 photos by Kelly Dujardin.

By Elena Moretti | Published 23 September 2025

Emma and Marvin chose Chateau de Varennes, a refined wedding venue surrounded by Burgundy vineyards for a spring day built around ivory, cream, and soft blush. Planner Olivia of L'Atelier Atypique held the rhythm while Kelly Dujardin followed the feeling across the elegant chateau wedding venues of Burgundy.

Getting Ready

Lauren Gabriele worked Emma's look into something polished but never overdone, skin glowing warm against the ivory of the Victoire Vermeulen Verveine gown from Olympe. The dress is bias-cut with a clean halter neck and deep open back, small buttons fastened along the spine. A sleek low updo and a birdcage fascinator completed the bridal look. Meanwhile, Marvin suited up in a dark grey tuxedo with satin shawl lapels from Beau Costume at Olympe, framed by the chateau's stone corridors.

In the hour before golden light softened into dusk, Emma walked the grounds alone with Kelly Dujardin. The Verveine gown moved with the faintest spring breeze, its halter neck and column silhouette casting a long shadow on gravel paths and chapel steps. She held her bouquet of white calla lilies with yellow spadices wrapped in white ribbon. Portraits caught mid-turn against large wooden doors and framed by tall bedroom windows with nothing but light around her.

Under the tree canopy at the edge of the lawn, dappled spring light turned skin warm and the ivory dress a deeper cream. Kelly Dujardin moved between black-and-white shots in front of the symmetrical manor wings and golden-hour backlight creating sun flare behind them. Marvin rested his forehead against Emma's, and the camera simply waited. On the chapel steps beneath carved archways, the ring exchange unfolded in golden afternoon light.

Reception

Dinner moved outside as the sky went violet. Jolibazaar's rattan-backed chairs grounded the long tables in organic texture while Velvet Rendez-vous's white nappage brought crispness. Emma and Marvin cut Mickael Iachini's six-tier textured white cake on the gravel terrace, then sat side by side at the head of the table, candlelight and blush roses between them. The sound of the evening: forks on plates, wine being poured, someone's toast drawing applause across the vineyard.

Design and Details

Le Clos Vegetal's florals brought soft movement, from blush garden roses and white hydrangeas in pedestal compote vases to a large installation climbing a red brick column and spilling onto stone steps. The seating chart by Le Petit Macati read 'Our Favourite People' in chalk-white lettering on a cream board. At each place setting: stacked white ceramic plates, warm greige linens from Velvet Rendez-vous, ribbed glassware, and thin silver candleholders from Jolibazaar catching the last light. KJ Atelier's jewellery added the final layer.

On a pale linen surface, the stationery suite by Agence MDF: octagonal ivory invitations, a hexagonal white velvet ring box holding a diamond cluster engagement ring from Atelier Joaillier, fine letterpress ink, and a wax seal in warm taupe. Kelly Dujardin's flat lay work is spare and intentional, each object chosen to represent the mood rather than catalogue it.

The grounds of Chateau de Varennes move from formal allee to vine-framed terrace with the ease of a property that has always known how to host. The pale cream-beige stone facade holds the light differently at each hour. Inside, a grand staircase of warm rose-toned marble, white boiserie panels, and a carved marble fireplace in the salon. Classical statues line the gravel pathways, and towers peek through softly blurred green foliage.
