Nicole and Michael brought family and friends together at Chateau de Courtomer, a privately hired 18th-century wedding estate in Normandy where formal gardens and open farmland frame every part of the day. Baya Flor Design drew the palette from lavender, blush, peach, and ivory while Melanie Anne Photography documented the celebration from morning preparations to final portraits. Garden-style aisle flowers of blush roses, lilac delphiniums, and alliums with brown bistro chairs on lawn

The ceremony arbor was rounded and full, Baya Flor Design packing it with meadow-style blooms in blush garden roses, peach ranunculus, and trailing ivory jasmine. The stone surroundings absorbed the colour. The cathedral veil moved across the grass as the bride walked forward, the floral appliques on her Pronovias gown echoing the arbor above.

Bridal Portraits

Bride with cathedral lace veil spread across geometric tile floor gazing through arched French doors in chateau
A bridal portrait taken outdoors on the lawn of a large French château, with the stone classical-style building visible in the background. The bride, a blonde woman with loose waves, is turned slightly away from the camera and glancing back over her shoulder with a smile, holding a loose, garden-style bouquet of white, blush pink, lavender, and lilac blooms including sweet peas and ranunculus. She wears an off-the-shoulder white ball gown with a fitted lace bodice and a full skirt, paired with a long cathedral-length veil that fans out behind her. In the background, rows of white ceremony chairs are arranged on the château forecourt. The shot is a three-quarter portrait with soft, even natural light.

The bride in the full Pronovias gown against Chateau de Courtomer's stone walls is the image this wedding was made for. The layered organza shifts with the breeze off the formal garden, the cathedral veil trailing behind across the grass. The portraits capture rough-cut limestone against fine organza grain, the textures reading beautifully in Melanie Anne's frames.

Melanie Anne Photography worked with late-afternoon Normandy light arriving low and warm through scattered cloud, throwing long shadows across the grass. The couple used the full estate from the gravel drive to the formal parterre garden. Under a centuries-old tree they shared a private moment before the day began in full, and later the bride's organza caught every shift in the breeze along the meadow.

Reception

Long outdoor reception table with cascading blush roses, peach garden roses, lilac delphiniums, and pink taper candles
Black-and-white image of a bride and groom sharing a kiss during the cake cutting moment inside a formal reception room. The bride wears a strapless fitted gown with a full skirt and has long wavy hair; the groom is dressed in a dark tuxedo with a boutonniere and holds a plate with a slice of cake. The three-tiered wedding cake sits on a small dark wood side table and is surrounded by loose floral arrangements featuring peonies, ranunculus, and delicate branching blooms. The room features floor-to-ceiling floral-print curtains with tassel tiebacks, wood-paneled walls, a patterned area rug, and a large arched window behind the couple that floods the scene with light. A striped upholstered armchair and an ornate framed mirror are visible to the left, suggesting a classic French château interior. The composition is a medium-wide portrait shot centered on the couple with the architectural window framing them from behind.
A champagne toast during an outdoor wedding reception, with a guest in the foreground raising a flute of rosé champagne toward the camera. The table is dressed in a white linen and features low floral centerpieces in a soft palette of blush, peach, lavender, and white — including tulips and open garden roses — alongside tall lavender taper candles and pink votive candles. White plates, silver cutlery, and printed menus are visible at each place setting. In the background, a woman in a blush or light grey dress stands holding a microphone, appearing to give a speech, while other guests in formal black tie attire raise their glasses. The setting is an outdoor courtyard in front of a classical stone building with tall windows. The shot is taken from a seated guest's perspective, with shallow depth of field keeping the foreground glass sharp and the background softly blurred.
An outdoor wedding reception table setup photographed in a wide shot on a gravel surface, with an open lawn and mature trees in the background. The long rectangular table is dressed in a light grey linen and lined on one visible side with approximately ten warm-toned wooden cross-back chairs. The tablescape features low floral arrangements in blush pink, lavender, and white tones with loose, garden-style blooms, paired with tall dusty pink taper candles, clear glassware, and grey or sage-toned place settings. Pink napkins are folded at each place setting, contributing to a soft, muted pastel palette. The overall styling is classic French countryside with a romantic, airy aesthetic.

Franc Ete catered with confident Norman simplicity, oysters on ice, regional cheeses, and small plates of duck empanadas, pork belly bao, and bacon-wrapped scallops before dinner moved through escargot, filet mignon, and truffled whipped potatoes. The House Mixer shifted the energy precisely when the dancing needed to start, and the couple moved through the candlelit room together.

Design and Details

Baya Flor Design built centrepieces in compote vessels, mounding blush garden roses, peach ranunculus, and sprigs of lavender into loose generous shapes. Brass candlesticks held tapered candles in blush and pale lavender, their wax dripping naturally by evening's end. Place settings were simple: cream linen, gold flatware, and handwritten cards, the whole story told in flowers, wax, and candlelight.

Melanie Anne Photography arranged details against the chateau's textured linen and aged wood. The Pronovias cathedral-length veil with floral appliques pools across the frame, and Bella Belle shoes in blush satin sit beside a small clutch. Tapered lavender candles, brass rings, and a single stem of ranunculus in pale peach fill the negative space with quiet intention.

Venue

Chateau salon with boiserie paneling marble fireplace sage velvet armchairs and crystal chandelier
Wide exterior shot of a French classical château with warm sandstone façade, slate mansard roofs, and a central pediment featuring decorative carved relief work above pilastered columns. The building spans multiple wings across the frame. To the right of the main entrance, rows of wooden chairs are arranged in a ceremony setup on a gravel courtyard, with what appears to be a white-clothed cocktail or welcome table nearby, indicating the space is dressed for a wedding ceremony outdoors. Trimmed hedgerows and a stone-edged reflecting pool or parterre border the foreground. The overall style of the event setup visible is classic and understated, with natural wood chairs against the formal French architecture. Potential venue feature image.

The 18th-century bones of Chateau de Courtomer do remarkable work on their own. Formal gardens give way to open farmland, and the pale stone facade shifts from silver to warm cream as the Normandy sky changes. The chateau sleeps up to fifteen guests across its bedrooms, and each room and garden corner pulls the story forward without interruption.

More from the Day

Bride seated on bed adjusting embroidered floral heels, wearing off-the-shoulder lace gown in chateau bedroom
A getting-ready portrait of a bride seated on a carved wooden French-style chair in a bright, classically furnished room with warm white walls, parquet flooring, and grey-purple curtains framing a window. She is wearing an off-the-shoulder white ball gown with a lace appliqué bodice and a full organza skirt, and is in the process of fastening a pale blue satin garter on her thigh. Her footwear consists of embellished heels with pale blue ankle straps and decorative bow detailing, referencing the 'something blue' tradition. She has long blonde wavy hair worn loose and is smiling directly at the camera. The room features a grey-painted vintage dresser and a table lamp, suggesting a château or manor house bridal suite setting. The image is a medium portrait shot taken in soft natural window light with a warm, airy tone.

Close-up detail shot of a catering or cocktail hour food display featuring freshly shucked oysters arranged on crushed ice in a round silver metal tray. Approximately seven to eight open oyster half-shells are visible, showing pale cream and grey-toned flesh. In the lower left corner, orange-pink cooked shrimp are partially visible, suggesting a seafood platter presentation. A small wooden block or stand is partially visible in the upper left background. The setting appears to be indoors against a dark surface, with natural or ambient soft lighting. The composition is a tight overhead angle focusing on the food detail.
